Infinite Perspective Ideology
Posted by Z on December 12th, 2005 -
For sometime now I have been purporting the benefit of thinking about things with perspective, and to communicate that thought I have used what I had been calling the “Sphere Ideology”. After some debate it was clear that the name was slang and didn’t convey the idea well. Based on this debate I changed the name to the Infinite Perpsective Ideology (a.k.a. IPI). The idea is basically captured in this diagram (used when I explained it to Flan in the name debating process) - more explanation to come… (as the diagram is more a mess and shows the debate more than an explanation)…

Ok, now that I have some time to explain… Click on the picture above - it’ll help in the explanation. As you can see there is a drawing of a x, y, and z axis. There is also a point at cooridinates 0,0,0. That point is the point/topic of discussion that you are thinking about. There are also 6 points around the topic of discussion. The six points represent perspectives on the topic - that is, from those points in space the topic looks different. For example, consider the old classic - a half glass of water. Some see it as half full, some see it as half empty. The Inifinite Perspective Ideology (IPI - pronounced “ip-e”) takes into account all perspectives. Unfortunately we can’t, as there are an infinite amount of perspectives. There are of course “common points/perspectives” which more people see things from than other points. By being able to see the topic of discussion from a good sampling of perspectives, one can better relate to people, and better understand the world in which (s)he lives. That does not mean the person agrees with the perspective, just that the topic of discussion is viewed from that perspective for a certain amount of time - preferably enough to try to understand (not agree with) the perspective.
