reflections from a donut shop

As I worked from a donut shop this morning I found it interesting how many things that happened in the shop related to my life – examples:
* people’s decision making process (see Predictiably Irrational and Diamond’s behavioral economics research/focus) – re: donut selection process
* how important trustworthy long time friends are – four old guys showed up and I could tell they had a very strong friendship and truly enjoyed each other’s company
* entrepreneurship, relationships, and mutually beneficial outcomes – the lady who owned the donut store survived multiple onslaughts from nearby startup coffee shops… all of which went out of business. She has a strong following at this shop – her customers enjoy her company (and donuts of course) and she knows most of them by name. D. Maister’s perspectives come to mind…
