I just bought a Droid

Posted by Z on November 7th, 2009 - Tags: , , ,

After going back and forth on the new Blackberry Storm 2 and Motorola Android I chose the Droid.  Some of the specifications for each are listed below:

Motorola Droid, Blackberry Storm 2, HTC Imagio, HTC ERIS

Man, that’s a pretty big limitation! I don’t think I would buy a phone without GSM support, especially for business use.

  2. Zach Says:

    No GSM :-(

  3. Preston Says:

How come there is no service in Europe? Surely it supports GSM?!

  4. Z Says:

I did end up later buying the HTC Incredible – and it’s just that (save no service in Europe :-( )

  5. Z Says:

    Returned it. Rationale:
    1. no unified calendar
    2. app store linked to gmail sign on account (potential fix – see online “APN” search term)
    3. grainy camera
    4. no tasks or notes sync (perhaps via local client)

Also – from our IT department:
    Avoid the Droid
For those thinking that the new Motorola Droid would seriously challenge the iPhone. I hate to report.. not yet!

There currently is an issue with Android that is preventing enforcement of Exchange Activesync policies which are required at Diamond. Without allowing policy enforcement, you won’t be able to integrate with email/calendar/address book.

With all the hype around the Droid, I’m sure this is being addressed. (Palm actually had the same issue when they first launched the Pre, and the iPhone did not initially support Activesync either)
